What’s your focus?

Dharana, the next limb of yoga, is focused meditation. We lock our attention on a singular point, perhaps the breath, a sound, or a bodily sensation. This requires practice because our mind does not easily stay focused on one point. Maybe you have heard the term “monkey mind”. This accurately describes what my mind does when I begin meditation. The key to quieting the mind is to not judge it, to acknowledge it and return to the focused point. The benefit of this limb of yoga is physical, emotional and spiritual.
Our last practice for the month of April will be Monday, April 25 from 6:30-8:00pm at the UU Church of Fresno on Alluvial. Remember, yoga has eight distinct limbs of practice. Come and explore them with us!
