Winter Solstice: 2010

This is a very special solstice this year. In addition to the the solstice, it is a full moon and a lunar eclipse. The solstice can be a time to begin our sankalpa (resolve). This yogic tradition takes the New Year’s Resolution to a new level. Following the yogic premise that we are already who we need to be, sankalpa strives to help us fulfill our life’s purpose (or dharma). The sankalpa then, is not an attempt to change who we are, rather to help us refine our dharma thru our actions.
The solstice is a time of inward focus with movement toward our light within. We can begin our personal journey to find our sankalpa rather than make a New Year’s resolution.

As with most things on this site, all of this ties into our Monday nite yoga practice. Our last 2010 practice will be this Monday, 12/20 from 6:30-8:00pm. We will have a solstice ceremony included within our practice. Join us at the UU Church of Fresno on Alluvial in Clovis.
Remember, there will not be a practice 12/27/10! This week’s practice is our last for 2010!
